Friday Hike Day: Thurman Flats Picnic Area

This isn't so much of a hike, as it is having lunch in the woods. It's an absolutely lovely spot though. It's a maintained picnic area with a covered area that has lots of tables and benches. There are vault toilet restrooms. Parking requires an Adventure Pass (currently $5 for a day).

The picnic area is ADA, which also makes it stroller friendly.  The water level is low at the stream but there was water when we went. Shallow swimming holes make it great for toddlers and younger kids. Refreshing for adults and olders.

The walk to the stream starts down a few wooden steps, across logs, to a narrow path and there it is. For that, I would not recommend trying to navigate with a stroller. However, the walk is so short to the stream, you could easily carry a little one. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous. Various trees, rocks, unfortunately also a bit of graffiti.

Trying to catch tadpoles.
It's a bit of a drive for us, since it's located at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains. The route doesn't keep much traffic though. Low on the adventure scale but extra points for the lovely view.

Normally we would have explored a little. It wasn't in the plan for today though...A few minutes after we arrived (2 hours later than I had planned already) I locked my keys in the car!!! That's another story for another post.

There is shade but also sun. Temps were high. Sun screen always recommended!
