The heavens serenade me with their glory. Softly they call to me with pastel whispers of golden pink. Barely audible, they sing of peace and rest, repeating; shalom, shalom...shalom.

Fitting In
left outuninvited
standing in a crowded room alone
none relate
start a path
that leads to nowhere
offer help
where yours isn't needed
an after thought leaves you like a new idea
choose a direction
that doesn't stop at a dead end
Except...
you won't know until you get there
that it's too late to turn around.
ending under isn't the same as starting over.
make your own space
a way your own
own the path your on
run your own race
Or...
jump off the track
slow down
ditch the finish line
you don't need to rush at all
Let the journey, the path, the trail, become over grown
don't pick the grass
step on it
trample it
it's hardy
it'll grow back
unless you stop watering it
fitting in isn't the same as a good fit

Rain, drops.
Is there a sweeter sound
than rain pelting your roof top,
windows and asphalt?
Or a scent that brings more familiarity
than of those first few drops
on the pavement?
Creation sings us to sleep tonight,
pouring out her melodic blessings.

Family
Family night
Family vacations
Family time
Family is everything
Everyone wants our Family
Everyone loves our Family
Christmas picture of the family at the Grand Canyon.
It's just a big hole.

In Memorium: Alien
My father-in-law
was an alien.
I remember when he took his citizenship test.
I still couldn't relate to him.
He became a saint when he died
Now I recognize him even less
Though I see his hand print on everyone
He's a permanent resident in their heart
They put his skeletons in the closet.
I don't think he fits in there, either.

Katy Street
There once was a girl named KATY
but no one knew her name.
"Kathy."
"No, Katy."
"Hello, Cathy."
"Katy."
There once was a boy who
stole a street sign for a girl
named, Katy, because it had
her name on it.
It would have been romantic
except he was a control freak.
And short.
but no one knew her name.

Macaroni & Cheese
I love chocolate chip cookies,
especially made with oatmeal.
When I was a little girl,
we often had oatmeal for dinner.
Or Kraft boxed macaroni and cheese.
I did not know macaroni & cheese was supposed to be a side dish.
In kindergarten I lied
about what I had for dinner.
I didn't want anyone to know I ate cold cereal.

Sorrow
tears in hidden places
brokenness in public spaces
darkness envelopes the soul
and it feels as if it will last forever
sleep can't come swiftly enough
and it's never enough
light shines through a cracked window
the sun? the moon? the porch light?
the light from stars that died years ago
unrecognizable, the life you've been living
memories stolen, retold, rewritten
crafted into the blur of a nightmare
brokenness in public spaces
darkness envelopes the soul
and it feels as if it will last forever
sleep can't come swiftly enough
and it's never enough
light shines through a cracked window
the sun? the moon? the porch light?
the light from stars that died years ago
unrecognizable, the life you've been living
memories stolen, retold, rewritten
crafted into the blur of a nightmare
