The grass is always greener..on the other side. 

Right.

Oh! We LOVE that saying, don't we? It implies one can never truly be satisfied with what they have: human nature. By accepting this little saying as a truth, it absolves us of all responsibility. That's just the way life is, nothing we can do about it. Sigh. We've gotta just be happy with our own dead lawn.

I call BS!
Seriously.

This idea of being content--as if it's a penance we have to pay. Contentedness is such a drag, on & on & on with the whining.


The grass is NOT always greener on the other side. 
The grass IS greener--where you WATER it.

Why are you staring at your neighbor's lawn anyway, weirdo!

Lawns don't grow like magic...a lot of hard work is required. I've got a garden...if I neglect it, before I know it, it's filled with giant weeds that are very tough to remove. If I neglect my lawn--IT DIES! Duh! All the time I spend looking at my neighbor's lawn, coveting the lush green--I could be tending my own garden. THAT is the key. If we were dedicated to working our own lawn and gardens, we wouldn't even have time to covet the neighbor's lawn. Right.

I can look all around me and see families, relationships, children, homes etc of others that appear better, shinier, lovelier than what I have. I can neglect my own children and by doing so allow weeds of bad character to take root and dig deep within their hearts. Before I know it--I'm overwhelmed by the work that needs to be done and I simply want to run away. Self defeating cycle that is, huh?

However, if I tend my own garden, the garden God has given ME--work to make it the lushest, greenest, most fertile soil of the heart one has ever known...the fruit it will bear will be self-satisfying. It starts with the gardener--NOT the lawn. Because the problem isn't the lawn. The problem is the gardener who neglects his own lawn.

Do not allow your own idleness to breed a spirit of dissatisfaction within your own heart!
