Did God Really Say That?

That was the FIRST lie from the enemy since the beginning of time. The words he spoke to Eve about eating from the tree of knowledge...Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden?" NIV (emphasis mine)

Eve KNEW what God said. When confronted by the question from the enemy--she began to doubt. INSTEAD of going back to God or even her husband...she entertained a conversation with the enemy AND THEN began to reason within herself, eventually talking herself OUT OF following God's command.

This is replayed over and over again through out the Bible. I can't help but think of Sarah and Abraham. Again--given a promise, directly from God about the son of the covenant...years go by and doubt sets in. Sarah began to reason within herself...hhmmm...did God REALLY say that? Maybe He meant something else? Maybe I misinterpreted Him...maybe He meant I should give Hagar to my husband! Yah, That's IT!

Bam! What a mess. Why not go back to God initially? Why didn't Abraham sit down and pray with his wife, seek God together? Neither are absolved of guilt here. Both behaved stupidly. BUT GOD! HIS grace IS sufficient.

His promises were never about THEM. It was about HIM. Though they were unfaithful --HE was/IS faithful. HE accomplishes His work and His will in and through their lives...and ours. We do not do it, HE does!

It was not just a promise for them...but a promise FOR HIM--to prove HIS faithfulness, HIS sovereignty, HIS goodness and HIS grace!

When God tells you something...HE will follow through with it. AND when/if you feel doubtful--DON'T entertain a conversation with the enemy. Don't try to reason it out within yourself. GO BACK to the SOURCE! As many times as necessary--HE DESIRES fellowship and communion with you. He NEVER tires of hearing from you.

Dig in to His Word, let HIM reassure You of his love for you, His plans for Your life. He desires GOOD things for you and He desires to be FAITHFUL to you. Every.step.of.the.WAY!
