I have yet to fully run 10. BUT I do a run/walk combo of that distance when I go out. The race was fast approaching & w/ everything going on in my life...I had not run for the past 3 weeks. I was setting myself up for failure.
I chose to fast on Saturday, felt I & my marriage really needed it. It was good but not too wise w/ a race the next day. I also stayed up past 3:30 am. But I woke up & headed out anyway.
I knew I could finish, walking if I needed too...my goal was to run @ least my 5k that I was used too....I started out ok w/ 2 other ladies & we kept pace together...eventually though, I did fall behind, way behind. They were nice but I just couldn't keep up & had to walk.
I made a point to 'run' when there were cameras around though, which there were plenty. lol The course seemed mainly uphill the entire time, which I was not expecting. The first mile was under 11 minutes...a really good average time for me.
It was not crowded & there was plenty of alone time along the course. I used that time to just think & say alot of prayers.......Big E voluntarily came to the race. We carpooled & he brought the ktbunch. That's a huge step forward that I praise the Lord for.
I wish I would've stayed afterwards longer but we were all very tired. They had a slide show & there were pix of my mom but I missed it. They gave out finisher medals...that was cool...my 1st real metal medal. :-)
Lil E said the time clock said 1:16 when I finished....which is a good average pace for me. I can only imagine what it would have been had I not walked. My knee felt a bit tweaked too & I was not really stretched out or warmed up enough, but it was ok.
I forgot my camera---major bummer---AND my minnie mouse ears. I wore my polka dot running skirt & wanted to match w/ the minnie ears...The skirt is way too big now. :(
I also met some myspace friends in person that also lost a father/husband to PC last year.
